Cary is Done...well sort of.

I sent the page proofs to my editor this morning. She said they looked good and forwarded them to the production staff who will contact me later this week. I'm sure they'll have questions. After that it goes to print.

Unless some miracle happens, I did not win the recipe contest to go to Napa. I only got about 160 votes and the two top recipes had over 1500. Oh well, it was fun away and my friends got some neat recipes. Thanks to everyone who voted for me!

In this middle of the Cary edits my True West editor gave me another assignment. That was in addition to the column I'm writing about coffee in the Old West.

Tomorrow I'll tackle the special TW assignment then hit the coffee, column. :)

In case you didn't notice I also took some time to update my blog site.

What do you think of the new look?

A Recent Discovery

While in England some archivists gave me leads to follow, which I did yesterday. I was doing some follow-up research on Evelyn and stumbled upon a treasure. When I was at the London Metropolitan Archives I had to apply for a History Card aka library card to access their resources, which includes old newspapers.

It was very useful and we yielded some good results. However, you couldn't save anything and had to print. I assumed the card was only good while I was at the library in London. Much to my happy surprise--it works from the comfort of my home here in the states!!

I spent most of yesterday perusing all the topics that I didn't have time to look up while in London. I was able to save all the items we located while in London, plus a whole bunch more! That alone is worth the trip. It also includes access to the London Times, which I was paying about $8 per day to access.

Sadly, I have to put the new toy down today and focus on my next True West column (which I like doing anyway) and getting some new Cary photos.

Ah, the balancing act...

July 20, 2007

This is a little late today, but I still made it. That's one whole week of blogging! Went walking/jogging yesterday with a neighbor before it got too hot. It was 98 and humid yesterday. Did my job, and met the cleaning lady. She's real nice and loves the old west! However, she wants to charge more than I want to spend, so I guess I'll keep looking.

We watched the funniest show last night on BBC America. It was called Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. OMG - this guy (English chef) is hysterical! It's the only reality show I have ever watched. I can't wait for next Thursday.

Today, I did some work and then went to the gym. Lifted weights and then swam 12 laps. I also volunteered at a local feral cat org. Some foster kitties (13) needed nails cut and other basic things done. It took longer than I planned, but I have to love on them, too!

I got extra copies of the August issue of True West which includes my author profile.

Got back and did some more work and had a conference call. Finishing up some more and then will sign off for the weekend. It's a big shopping weekend to get everything for the beach next week. Not sure what's for dinner tonight either...
