December 28, 2007

Two days until my birthday! We had to take the live Christmas down yesteday because it was so dry and dead. It was a real fire hazard. But, there are still two others.

Tomorrow we are headed to the NC wine country (about 3 hours away) with some friends to taste wine and spend the night in a log cabin. Yes, for those of you who are wine people like us, NC is not known for its wine, except the fruit kind, but it's as close as I can get in this area.

It will be fun just the same. The cabin is at one of the wineries and so is the restaurant where I will be having a birthday dinner.

Work was a little crazy the last two days, but it seems like everyone is on vacation, which is just fine by me.

December 26, 2007

It seems like forever since I last blogged. The rush of holiday shopping, visiting, and wrapping it finally over. I am both happy and sad. There is so much anticipation and then it's over in a flash.

Christmas Eve was very nice. We ended up having 21 people for a party that started out for 10. Hey, I don't like anyone to be alone on Christmas Eve. The last guests left around 11:45.

Christmas morning was cold, but no snow...lots of great presents. We went to my moms for gift exchanging and then came home to get dinner started. I made herb roasted beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, asparagus, horseradish sauce for the beef, rolls, and for dessert - Red Velvet Cake. Oops, forgot about all the cookies, pecan sandies, Italian Wedding Cookies, and Grandma's sugar cookies.

Last night we watched A Christmas Story - it's a tradition. My Lost World's show is on again tonight.

Today is back to work, but I get another long weekend because of New Year's Eve and day. Yee haw!

Four more days until my birthday...

December 20, 2007

Yesterday was crazy with work and it was my niece's last day here. I ended up working late because I wanted to spend time with her on her last day here. It was worth it.

The weather is warming up again - 60 today.

It's only 5 days until Christmas and 10 until my birthday!

December 19, 2007

It was a most excellent movie night. 3:10 to Yuma was awesome!!! Rusell Crowe and Christian Bale were terrific. I have to watch it again. We also watched Christmas Vacation. If more westerns were like that, we would all be happy!

Our niece left tonight...miss her already. She's so funny and sweet.

Work is crazy and it looks like I am going to Lake Tahoe in February for a business meeting. How cool is that? However, we will be in a cabin - all of us! Just like when I filmed the Lost Worlds show in Deadwood. It really allows you to get to know people really well. Right, TSJG?

Back to work...it's 7:46 E.T.

December 18, 2007

The party was awesome! I think there were 25 people here. The secret Santa gift exchange was fun as well.

One guest had a little too much to drink...she disappeared, and we later found her passed out on my sofa upstairs in the loft. How funny!

Our niece arrived from Florida just in time for the party and she is here until tomorrow night. It's been movies and stories. Last night we watched Scrooged and Death Becomes Her. Tonight it's 3:10 To Yuma and either Home Alone or Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (one of my favs). I made Beef and Guinness for dinner last night and tonight it will be Chicken Parmesan (Jamie's fav).

I have a book to read and write a review before Chritmas, so I better get at it. I also have a job to do, and some other fun stuff for my future.

Oh, my Lost Worlds show is airing again. It will be on the History Channel on December 26, 2007 at 9:00 p.m. E.T.

December 14, 2007

Yesterday I was busy with work and trying to get my Christmas packages wrapped and mailed to those who don't live near me.

Today I had my hair done and did some work. My one client's project is getting to be so cool and it could be huge...if it takes off, there will be a new brand on the market and the name is the one that I created. More on that when I can tell...

Tonight were are doing as much prep work as possible to get ready for the party. Our niece flies in tomorrow and will be here until Wednesday night.

I will try to take some pictures at the party and post one here...

Until Monday.

December 12, 2007

I guess your figured out that I have been busy since I have posted since last Friday.

The weekend was busy with shopping and decorating.

I finally finished my TOT edits and sent them to the publisher!!!

Monday I decorated two of the three trees. I still have the real one to do, which we'll do tonight.

One of my nieces has a school project that requires family genealogy, and guess who she contacted? It seems I get these requests as the nieces and nephews go through school. She needs it by Friday. I only hope that they gain a long term interest in their family history, and not for just the one project.

So far, we have 27 confirmed guests for the party and some other maybes. So far, I will be making all the usual party food which includes, pico de gallo, assorted cheeses, quiche, stuffed jalapenos, buffalo chicken wings, mini hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls, meatballs, a lunch meat platter, chips and dip, and some other things I can't remember right now, oh, plus desserts. We'll be having a wine tasting competition and a secret Santa gift exchange, with a twist!

It's going to be 80 degrees again today - with temps like this all week, it's a little tough getting into the Christmas spirit.

Saturday is supposed to be in the 40s, so that should help.

December 7, 2007

Well, I sent my TOT off to the publisher yesterday, but I still have the index to finish. I will do that this weekend.

Now I have to read a book and write a review for it before Christmas.

I also have to shop, mail cards, and decorate all before next weekend since we are having a large party here next Saturday. I think we'll put the trees up with weekend. Yes, I said trees. What can I say - I like them. The real tree, a NC Frasier fir (smells awesome) gets all the brass and crystal ornaments. The 14 foot fake tree gets all the traditional red and green ornaments, candy canes, etc. The parlor tree is, you probably guessed, Victorian.

Gotta go!

December 5, 2007

The weather has been colder than normal this week, but by Saturday, it's supposed to be 65 again. My little fireplace sure make my office warmer.

It's probably going to be a late night tonight, since I have to finish my TOT edits and mail them tomorrow. I have to read the whole book, and then create two indexes for all the proper names and recipes in the book. Yikes! I don't know why I put these things off...

The MRI results show that I am pretty normal (physically), expcept that one disc has a slight tear, and will flare up under certain conditions. Lucky me. The doc says to figure out what works best to get me through it - physical therapy, acupuncture, massage, etc.

We sold our football tickets for this Thursday night's game. I hate that we did, but it's tough when they game is on a week night. I'll be there in spirit and watching it on TV.

December 3, 2007

Well, I was right, yesterday's game was sad and cold. They had a small memorial for Sean Taylor after the team's warm-ups, just before the game. I think everybody cried when they showed an interview with Sean who said his favorite thing about playing at home was the fans. Everyone had signs, faces and cars painted, and there was the memorial at Fed Ex field. I made a small gold pin and with his "21" on it to wear on my coat. When I was being frisked by security, the woman asked me where I got my pin and I told her I made it. I told her I just felt like I needed to - she smiled and put her arms around me and give me a giant bear hug. How sweet.

I did manage to make some minor progress on Taste of Tombstone, but this week is crunch time! It's due Friday.

I'm working on some other things as well, but I'm not sure I am ready to share yet. If it all happens, it will be so much fun!

Back to work...

December 1, 2007

Wow, it's December already.

Yesterday was interesting. I had an MRI on my back to see why I keep having pain off and on. Thing is, I am claustrophobic and those things are tight. I had my doctor give me a script for some "doggy" downers so I wouldn't freak. Honestly, I just felt a little relaxed, but later I realized they hit me harder than I knew. I didn't work in the morning because of the MRI, so I sent my co-worker an email. I corrected it about 8 times before I thought it looked good. Boy, she sent me a reply saying I made her laugh...I re-read the email and I cracked myself up! I guess the drugs were more effective than I knew.

We got our Christmas tree yesterday - a beautiful 9' Frasier Fir from the mountains of NC. We aren't putting up until this week since we are headed to D.C. today.

I've been catching up on my VP-Marketing duties with WWW this week as well. I also have to work on my final Taste of Tombstone in the car today, since it's due back to the publisher next Friday.

The football game tomorrow will be sad and cold - the Redskins are honoring Sean Taylor before the game. It's also supposed to be about 37 degrees with freezing rain. Until Monday...
